We believe music and art are not performances. They are ways of ministering, connecting, and encountering God. That conviction shapes what happens on Sunday mornings, and it’s why we open our doors to the wider Austin community throughout the year.
From the opening notes of our pipe organ to the final chord on Sunday morning, music at FPCA is an invitation. It settles into your soul. It deepens your connection to scripture. It moves your feet and catches your breath.
Worship draws on classical choral pieces, traditional hymns, chamber music, and contemporary gospel music, brought to life by talented volunteers and some of Austin’s finest instrumentalists. No two Sundays sound exactly alike.
"Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly in all wisdom; teaching and admonishing one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing with grace in your hearts to the Lord." — Colossians 3:16
From spirituals to choral anthems, our Sanctuary Choir upholds a simple belief: in the praise of God, singing is vital ministry. If you can’t get through Christmas without singing your favorite carols, we’ve saved a robe for you. No audition required, though music-reading skills are recommended. The choir sings at the 10:00 am service September through May, with Wednesday evening rehearsals from 7:00 to 8:30 pm.
Open to singers and instrumentalists, our ensembles bring a wide range of musical traditions into Sunday worship. Participation is by audition. Contact our Worship & Arts Director for more information.
Whether you’ve been ringing for years or you just love music and want to learn something new, there’s a place for you in our handbell choir. Rehearsals are Sundays from 11:30 am to 12:30 pm, September through May.
Tiny singers are some of our favorites. Children grow in their love of God through singing, instruments, and music-making. They lead worship in special services throughout the year. There’s always room for more.
Long before Austin became the “Live Music Capital of the World,” our Möller Op. 263 tracker pipe organ was filling the air with live music. Since its debut concert in 1900, this magnificent instrument has accompanied our choir, carried our congregation in song, and anchored some of the most powerful moments of worship in our sanctuary. Our Sanctuary was built for music, and we believe it should be shared. We regularly host community concerts that bring Austin audiences into this beautiful space. Check the calendar for upcoming events.
We think of our gallery the way others think of sacred space: as a place to replenish the spirit and fuel creative thought. Throughout the year, artists from our extended community display their work in rotating exhibitions, and we host receptions that open the gallery to the wider Austin community. Come wander through on a Sunday morning. Let it challenge you, inspire you, and deepen your faith.
Whether you want to sing, play, ring, create, or help coordinate the artistic life of the church, there’s a way in. Our Worship, Music, and Arts Team meets monthly to connect liturgical arts, visual arts, concerts, and community partnerships. Reach out to our Worship & Arts Director to learn more or get involved.
